IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Wyman Kay
Ovard
November 26, 1946 – March 10, 2026
Wyman "Kay" Ovard March 10, 2026 Wyman "Kay" Ovard, 79, of Evanston, Wyoming, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, generosity, and unforgettable memories.
Kay was a man of many talents and passions. For over 30 years, he built a reputation as a skilled lead mechanic, earning respect for his ability to fix nearly anything. But his true dream job came later-working at The American Cowboy, where he could share his love of western tack and clothing with others who appreciated the lifestyle he cherished.
A true American cowboy at heart, Kay lived authentically. He was an accomplished horseman, hunter, and fisherman who spent countless hours in the mountains and on the trails he loved. He taught his children to fish and spent hours with each of them on many mountains and at several lakes.
He built his first home with his own two hands and the help of his wonderful neighbors, a testament to his self-reliance and determination. In the kitchen, he was legendary for his sourdough pancakes-a simple dish made special by the care he put into everything he did for those he loved. Kay was an incredible dancer who shared that joy with his children, teaching them to move to the rhythms of western music, especially the songs of Ian Tyson. It was certainly a special night to be able to spend some time on the dance floor with Kay.
He served his country in the Army National Reserves for five years, bringing the same dedication to duty that characterized his entire life.
Beyond his accomplishments, Kay was defined by his unwavering support for his family's dreams and passions. He was the quietest cheerleader for each one of his kids, no matter what they chose to do in life. He was a loyal friend and a man who showed love through action-whether that meant cooking a meal, lending a hand, or simply being present.
Kay is survived by his beloved wife, Lisa Ovard ; his children, Shawna Ovard, Cynthia Ovard, Kaylyn (Jared) Ovard-Smith, and Riley Ovard ; his grandchildren, Tia Smith and Zane Ovard ; his sister, Sharon (Reed) Williams ; and his brother, Scott (Claudia) Ovard . Many sisters and brothers in law, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Wyman , his mother, Elizabeth , and his first wife, Linda Yardley .
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the family. Venmo @Lisa-Ovard .
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
