Terral R Michaelson

Jun 5, 1940 — Oct 17, 2026

Evanston

Terral R Michaelson, 86, passed away October 17, 2026, in Evanston, Wyoming. He was born at home on June 5, 1940, in St. Charles, Idaho, the second son of William Glenn Michaelson and Gracellen Ringel Michaelson.

Terral was a fifth-generation Idahoan. Six of his great-grandparents were early settlers of the Bear Lake Valley, and he was proud of his Bear Lake heritage all his life. He grew up in St. Charles and graduated from Fielding High School in 1958.

He served a two-and-a-half-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Germany. On September 3, 1964, he married Enid Jo "Jody" Nordgran in the Salt Lake Temple. He graduated from Utah State University in 1966.

Terral began his career teaching German and World History in Vernal, Utah, then changed course to mining engineer, a field he worked in for more than 30 years. He and Jody raised their family in Lyman, Wyoming, while he worked for FMC. He served on the Lyman School Board for fourteen years. He built four homes, mostly by himself, the first three while working full time.

In retirement, Terral and Jody traveled together often and lived in St. George and Willard, Utah. They served a couples mission together in Wisconsin. Four years ago, they returned to Evanston to be near their youngest grandchildren.

He was an avid gardener, hunter, fisherman and huckleberry picker. He loved fishing with his brother Dean and gardening with Jody. Not a year went by without a huckleberry trip with his brothers or his kids. Nothing mattered more to him than his family. He would drive anywhere to see his children and grandchildren's ball games or performances.

Terral was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as bishop in Lyman, and he and Jody served together in the St. George and Brigham City temples. His favorite calling was nursery leader, but he loved teaching every age group. He was serving as an Elders quorum teacher and taught his last lesson in August.

He was a great neighbor who could talk to anyone and served everyone he met. He was a true minister to his family and friends.

Terral is survived by Jody, his wife of 62 years; his children Bart (Danielle) Michaelson, Odette (Darren) Brandt, Dustin (Tiffany) Michaelson and Julie Michaelson; seven grandchildren, Brooke, Hailey, Austin, Carson, Isaac, Parker and Kyle; his brothers Randell Michaelson, Kent Michaelson and Rocky (Cindy) Michaelson; and his sister-in-law Maxine Michaelson. He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Wendy Michaelson , his brother Dean Michaelson and sister-in-law Phyllis Michaelson.
