Sylvia Bessie Nichelson

Sylvia Bessie Nichelson, formerly of Springfield,SD passed away on March 18, 2026 while residing at Spring Gardens, Heber City, Utah. She was 92 year old.

Sylvia was born August 7, 1933 to James and Hattie (Chrastil) Rychecky near Milford, NE. She grew up near Crete, NE where she graduated high school. Following high school while woking in Lincoln, NE she met Howard Nichelson. They were married July 2, 1953 in Crete, NE. This union lasted 53 years and they were blessed with five children.

Sylvia was well known for her baking, making all her own breads, rolls, cookies, and cakes which she shared with everyone. She loved sewing and crocheting, making many beautiful clothes, Christmas ornaments and afghans. Sylvia was always up for a good game of cards with family and friends.

Sylvia enjoyed being a mother, Sunday School Teacher, scout leader, working with Job Daughters, and attending the many school activities her children were involved in. During 57 years in Springfield, she was a member of Eastern Star, Faulty Dames, Women’s Fellowship and American Legion Auxiliary. Sylvia acquired her realtor license in the late 1960’s and then sold real estate for over 30 years.

Thankful for having shared Sylvia’s life are daughter-in-law, Pam Nichelson of Green River, WY, Alan (Heannette) Nichelson of St. Cloud, MN, Kay (Alex) Katchuk of Oakley, UT, Mark (Lisa) of St. Cloud, MN, Teri (John) Boesiger of Loveland, CO, nine grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. Sylvia was preceded in death by husband, Howard; son, Merl; and grandson, Noah.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local food pantry or other favorite charity. A celebration of life will be held in Springfield, SD at a later date.
