A proud graduate of Evanston High School's class of 1962, Susan was known in her youth for her vibrant spirit and talents. Her proudest accomplishments reflected the heart of Evanston's community-she was a beloved majorette for the EHS marching band. She was crowned Cowboy Days Queen in 1962, following in her mother's footsteps.
Susan's love for animals was profound and lifelong. She took great pride in raising and showing championship-winning Great Danes, enjoyed horseback riding, and was recognized as an excellent golfer, embodying a spirit of adventure and excellence in all her passions.
Susan married Kenneth E. Woodward on February 14, 1963, and they had 2 children, Brian and Calista. They later divorced. Susan married Ed Hitchcock on November 11, 1988. They spent many years traveling the world from their home in Cave Creek, AZ. Her family roots ran deep. She was the cherished daughter of Wilburn and Charleen (Mills) Bowns and sister to Janet, James "Jim", Lynda, and John.
Though she has passed, Susan leaves behind loved ones who continue to carry her legacy forward: Her son Brian (Mardi) Woodward of Evanston, Wyoming and daughter Calista (David) Perry of Coalgate, Oklahoma. 9 grandchildren, Brad (Kayla), Payton, Addison (Lane) Ashby, Remington Woodward, Aylssa (Stephen) Valenzuela, Wyatt Schrand, Austin, and Morgan Perry. 4 great grandchildren. Her brother John (Lucy) Bowns of Evanston, Wyoming, and Lynda (Jack) Sims of La Barge, Wyoming. She is preceded in death by her parents, sister Janet, and brother James "Jim".
In reflection of her life, memorial services will be held on April 28, 2026, beginning with a viewing at the Evanston LDS Elm St Chapel from 11:00 AM to 11:45 AM, followed by a graveside service at Evanston City Cemetery, starting at 12 pm.
