Stanton Wadsworth Taggart, 92, passed away on April 17, 2026, at the home of his daughter, Dixie.
Stan was born on February 23, 1934, in Ogden, Utah, to Queena Wadsworth and Albert Dewey Taggart. He spent most of his youth at Taggart's Camp near Morgan, Utah, and attended Morgan schools. After graduating, he went on to study at Weber State College.
In 1956, he married Althea Taylor in Evanston at the Union Presbyterian Church. Together, they had four children: Carrie, Stan, Ted, and Dixie. They were later divorced.
In 1984, he married Martha High. They had one daughter, Caitie, and he also welcomed a stepson, Ben High. They were later divorced.
As a young man, Stan worked at the family business at Taggart's. He later became a technical writer for Marquardt and Hercules and also did freelance writing for several Utah newspapers. In the mid‑1960s, he moved his family to Evanston, Wyoming, where he managed the newly built Ramada Inn. Shortly afterward, he purchased Pete's Roc n' Rye - a decision that shaped the rest of his life.
Stan loved music, reading, history, running, writing, photography, nature, and long conversations with his beloved customers. Articulate and well‑read, he enjoyed sharing his knowledge with others. He was a civil rights activist and a lifelong music enthusiast.
Stan is survived by his children: Carrie (George) Dickerson, Stan (Cassie) Taggart, Ted (Sue) Taggart, Dixie (Dan) Selleroli, Caitie (Randy) Riddle, and Julia James. He is also survived by his sister, Judee (Scott) Rees; 15 grandchildren; and 24 great‑grandchildren. He leaves behind many cherished customers and friends, who meant the world to him.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by his brothers, Dewey (Dude) Taggart, Stephen E. (Eddie) Taggart, and Fred Singleton.
Cremation has taken place, and in accordance with his wishes, no services are planned at this time.
