Sharol Thornock

September 28, 1946 — November 6, 2021

Sharol Gerrard Thornock, age 75, passed away on November 6, 2021, in St. George Utah. Born, September 28, 1946, to Margorie Schofield and Raymond Gerrard, she and her twin sister Sharon were born into a loving family. Sharol was raised in Evanston and graduated from Evanston High School in 1965. Her sewing skills were exceptional. Sharol married Clifford Martin, on March 19, 1966, and together they had two children, Scott, and Nikki. Later, Clifford and Sharol divorced and Sharol married Sidney Thornock in 1989.

Sharol was a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints had a strong testimony of the gospel. She held numerous callings, including being a counselor in the Relief Society Presidency, Primary Teacher, Sunday School Teacher, and Visiting/Ministering Teacher. She loved her ministering sisters and she always looked forward to their visits when she was in Fort Bridger.

Sharol earned her cosmetology license in 1967 and maintained the license throughout her life. She owned and operated a beauty salon in Utah and in Mountain View. In 1998, Sharol started working with children with developmental disabilities. She loved every one of her clients.

Family was extremely important to Sharol and they were involved in her life.  She loved her children and grandchildren so much and would quite frequently mention how proud she was of all of them and their accomplishments.

Some of Sharol’s hobbies included traveling and going on new adventures. Some of the places she and Sid were able to travel to include: Hawaii, the Caribbean, the Panama Canal, Cabo San Lucas, Cozumel, and Cairo Egypt. While in Egypt, visiting her brother John and Sister-in-Law Sherrie, she and Sid and her twin Sister Sharon & Maury were  honored to represent the United States at a Department of State dinner as invited guests of John. She loved animals and especially loved her two shih tzu dogs, Sparky, and Sophie. She also loved Christmas time and the family gatherings that accompanied the holiday, Sharol loved to cook for people and took joy and happiness in feeding people. Sharol was always thinking of others and was very self-less, as she would give whatever she had to whomever was in need. She was very resilient and was a breast cancer survivor.

Sharol and Sid lived in Mountain View and Fort Bridger and in their later years spent their winters in St. George, Utah and Beaver Dam, Arizona. Sharol and Sid also loved their cabin in Bear Lake and loved going boating and fishing. Sharol was a people magnet and loved meeting people, talking, and visiting with them. She had the ability to strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere, at any time. Sharol made a lot of friends this way all over the intermountain states.

Sharol is survived by her husband, Sidney Thornock; her children, Scott (Diana) Martin, Nikki (Glenn) Roach; step-daughter Wendy (Varin) Lester; son-in-law, Ray Hatch; her grandchildren, McKenzie (Daniel) Beck (21), Jacob Roach (20), Ashley Martin (16), Alexa Roach (16), Alyssa (JD) Page (27), Landon Lester (26), Colten Hatch (24), Becklee Lester (19), Lucas Hatch (16); and a great-grandson James Page (8).  Sharol was proceeded in death by her parents, her sister Bertha, her brothers Raymond and Dennis, a nephew, Denny Allen, and Stepdaughter, Melanie Hatch.

A viewing will be held at Crandall’s Funeral Home on Monday, November 15 from 6:00-8:00 pm and the funeral will take place at the Lyman Stake Center in Urie on Tuesday, November 16 at 11:00 am, with a viewing to be held prior from 9:30 am–10:45 am. Interment will take place at the Evanston City Cemetery at 1:30 pm with a luncheon to follow at the LDS Elm Street church.
