Sarah Marie Alle Fillin, 99, of Fort Bridger, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on May 6, 2025. Sarah was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, loyal friend and a true icon of Bridger Valley
Born on March 16, 1926, in Wamsutter, Wyoming to Samuel and Pauline Sandoval Alle, Sarah held birth certificates in both New Mexico and Wyoming. She was raised in Wamsutter, Wyoming, alongside her siblings, and from a young age, she showed a strong work ethic and a fierce independence. At just 13, she began working as a tailor at JCPenney in Rawlins, Wyoming. Determined to get an education, Sarah rode the train from Wamsutter to Rawlins weekly to attend high school, where she graduated in 1945.
After graduation, she moved to Ogden, Utah, where she worked as a mail clerk at the Army Depot by day and attended beauty school at night. It was in Ogden that she met her dear friend Ruth Goodrick, who invited her to a dance in Bridger Valley—an event that would change her life forever. That evening, Sarah met the love of her life, Floyd Fillin. After a three-year courtship, they were married on January 21, 1950.
Sarah and Floyd made their home in Fort Bridger, Wyoming, where they raised two daughters, Jennifer and Deena. In 1951, with the help of Albino Fillin, Sarah opened her own beauty shop in their home, where she worked as a beautician for 34 years.
Sarah was not only dedicated to her family, but her faith was central to her life, and she found fulfillment in giving back to her community through service and volunteer opportunities. She also found joy in various hobbies and interests. She loved bird watching and was a gifted seamstress and embroiderer. Additionally, she took great delight in reading, traveling, and attending family sporting events, often cheering on her grandchildren with unwavering enthusiasm. She especially loved gathering with loved ones over margaritas at Fiesta Guadalajara and celebrating the little joys of life.
Sarah’s impact on Bridger Valley spans more than seven decades. She was a constant, steady presence in the community—deeply rooted in faith, family, and service. As a dedicated member of Saint Helen’s Catholic Church, she served for decades as both secretary and treasurer of the parish council and faithfully kept the church books. She was also a cornerstone of the annual St. Patrick’s Day Smorgasbord, volunteering for an astounding 71 years. Her legacy of kindness, generosity, and involvement has touched generations of Valley residents.
Sarah is survived by her sister, Emma Alle Rendon; her children, Jennifer and Hook Butters, and Deena Fillin Butters; her grandchildren: Natalie and Brent, Michael and Sarilyn, Trisha and Charlie, Bonner and Sarah, and AlleJo; her great-grandchildren: Brennan, Braeden, Jordan, Jaycee, Jaspur, Jaggur, Dixon, Hadley, Bronson, Barrett, Beckham, Bryston, Christian, and Darianne; and her great-great-grandchildren: Haizlynn, Nikola, Burkley and Atreyu.
