Samuel Herbert Johnson, 84, of Lyman, Wyoming, passed away at home on February 17th, 2026 with family and his beloved dog by his side. Born January 1, 1942 in Orem, Utah to Phyllis Pyne and Rell Johnson, Sam was known for his adventurous spirit. His family lived in Palmyra, Utah–a farm community where young Sam learned a strong work ethic and faith in Jesus Christ. He especially enjoyed romping around with his brother Jody (Joseph). He graduated from Spanish Fork high-school in 1960.
After high school Sam worked for Hughes Dairy delivering products to customers. He also served in the National Guard, achieving the rank of Sergeant first class. Somehow Sam fit in cliff diving as a pastime.
On November 24, 1962 in Ely, Nevada, Sam married Carolyn Hansen. Sam became an ironworker. This career led to his involvement in the ironworkers union as a representative and in other leadership roles.
They moved to Wyoming in 1971where they raised their seven children (they had eight children; second child, Joel, passed away while they lived in Spanish Fork, Utah ).The family enjoyed the outdoors: hunting, fishing, camping, and trap shooting.
Sam enjoyed music and taught himself trumpet, saxophone, and guitar. He served on the town council for several years. His passion for golf spread to those he coached or taught lessons. Gardening kept him young at heart while sharing abundant produce with others. Sam’s church service over the years touched many lives.
Sam is survived by his children Lane Johnson, Jadelyn Bailey (Mitch), Dustin Johnson (Tiffany), Kristin Bradshaw (Clint), Holly Faeth (Thad), Jed Johnson, and Alex Johnson (Dominique). He is also survived by his sister Donna, his grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn, his son Joel, his parents, most of his siblings, and his grand daughter Mindy.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Wounded Warriors, Primary Children's Hospital, or a charity of your choice. The family would like to thank all whose friendship and care enriched our father's final years.
