Ruth Ann Robbins was born on May 31, 1946 in Vernal, Utah. She said she was born there because her mother was homeless. Her father had been transferred for work and the housing was not ready for the family, so Ruth's mother went to Vernal to stay with her folks and Ruth was born there.
Ruth passed away on April 26, 2026, in Evanston, Wyoming. She was preceded in death by her mother, Vella Collett, her two fathers, Charles Linzy Robbins and Burlin Graham Jackman, an older brother Charles Wiley Robbins, Charles' daughter, Karen Afton Robbins and grand-nephew Marcus Levi Jackman.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Carol York Robbins, brother George (Susan) Jackman, sisters Patricia Robbins, Priscilla (Melvin) Toone, and Lenita (Scott) Anderson. She has numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews.
Ruth was an energetic, curious child. She liked living in the country with the pets and farm animals, and room to roam with her imagination. Her father called her Skeeter. Ruth attended school in Mountain View. She enjoyed art and sewing as well as working outside. She graduated from Mountain View High School then attended Brigham Young University and graduated with an elementary education degree and an art minor. Summer breaks found her working at Little America.
Ruth taught third and fourth grades in West Jordan, Utah and Green River, Wyoming. She served a mission in London, England then finished her teaching career in Lyman, Wyoming. She especially enjoyed teaching art and Wyoming history.
For two summers she worked for the US Forest Service where she said she learned she could fix almost anything.
Ruth was a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ where she used her teaching and leadership skills in Relief Society, Young Women's and Primary. She spent years in nursery with Cindy Powers. She served a Stake Mission.
Ruth created her own library of family pictures, histories and stories and shared them with other family members. She was fond of local history and was a long-time member of the Uinta County Historical Society. She liked to attend the treks sponsored by the different counties of Wyoming. She did creative work in the Lyman museum.
Ruth made countless pieced quilts and runners for friends and family and clothing for the children. She gardened arranged flowerpots for the deck. She enjoyed camping and other activities with her nieces and nephews, and they loved being with her.
Ruth was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She enjoyed the history and she felt the associations she had with the other women there were priceless.
Ruth and her sister Pat enjoyed traveling both in the country and out and learning the history of the areas they visited. They traveled in the United States and visited various European countries.
Ruth spent some summer in Alaska where Pat taught school. She dug clams and helped on a friend's fishing boat. One summer she worked at Glacier Bay National Park. She also enjoyed traveling with her aunts.
After retirement, Ruth and Pat taught English in a University in Xian, China. While they were there, they were able to travel around China, Vietnam and Cambodia and stay for a time in Australia on their way home. After that experience Ruth decided she was through with airplanes and airports. She enjoyed the rest of her life in Bridger Valley with family and friends.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at the Fort Bridger Cemetery at 11:00 am.
