Roy Dean Smith

December 30, 1955 — December 26, 2025

Randolph

Roy Dean Smith was born the youngest of four in Jerome, Idaho on December 30, 1955. Roy grew up in Moore, Idaho with his 2 brothers, 1 sister and widowed mother (his father died when he was 2 years old).

He graduated high school from Butte High School in Arco, Idaho in 1974 where ran track and competed in the hurdle races. He earned his Eagle Scout.

Roy served a mission in Atlanta, Georgia (1976-1978). He attended Rick’s College (BYU Idaho) where he earned an Associates Degree. While at Rick’s, he met his future wife Kim Hoffman and they married in the Salt Lake Temple on August 3, 1978.

They lived in Moore, Idaho for a year and then moved to Randolph, Utah where they raised their family (Ben, Tyler, and Torey). Roy worked for Rocky Mountain Power for 42 years. He completed an apprenticeship as an electrician and then continued his education to learn how to build/connect meters. He took a promotion in 2010 to Cedar City, Utah where he resided for the next 15 years with his wife, Kim.

He served the Lord with his heart for seven years in the St. George and Cedar City Temples. He built the electrical meter for the Cedar City Temple when it was constructed. He held callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints as a primary teacher and Elder’s Quorum teacher. He served as a scout master and worked tirelessly with his sons on their Eagle Scouts and Order of the Arrow, taking them to Philmont, New Mexico. They went on many campouts and hikes including multiple 50 mile hikes.

Roy loved Disneyland trips and family gatherings, and family reunions in Idaho. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren participate in sports.

Roy passed away peacefully in his home on December 26, 2025. Roy Dean Smith was preceded in death by his father Earl Kenneth Smith and his mother Rea Jean Hardy. He is survived by his wife, Kim Hoffman Smith, his children: Ben, Tyler (Sara), Torey (Brady) and his nine grandchildren: Grant, Greta, Gavin, Gemma, Bradan, Gayle, Nathan, Ian, and Brennan. He is also survived by his three older siblings Brian (Patty), Stan (Cindy), and Leah (Tom).
