It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rose Mary Searcy, known to many simply as Mary. She was a pillar of the community, dedicating her life to volunteering at various organizations such as the senior center, Rocky Mountain Care, and ECDC. Mary's kindness and compassion knew no bounds; she was a grandmother figure to every child she encountered and a friend to all who had the privilege of crossing her path.
Mary was born on August 5, 1937, in Evanston, WY, to Rhoda and Bird Hughes. She grew up alongside her siblings Glenn, Joyce, Luella, Edna, Reta, Junior, and Albert. In adulthood, Mary married the love of her life. December 29 ,1954 Loren "Slim" Searcy, with whom she had a daughter named Anita. Together as a family, they shared many cherished memories and experiences.
One of Mary's proudest accomplishments was her 50 plus years of membership in the Fraternal Order of Eagles #2359. Her dedication and commitment to the organization were unparalleled.
In her spare time, Mary found joy in attending church every Sunday and relished her trips to Wendover to be with her extended family. She also had a fondness for playing bingo weekly and spending quality time with her circle of friends.
Mary passed away on June 26, 2024, in Evanston, the same town where she was born. She is preceded in death by her parents Rhoda and Bird Hughes, siblings Glenn, Joyce, Luella, Edna, Reta, Junior, and Albert; her beloved husband Loren "Slim" Searcy; their daughter Anita Makinen; great-granddaughter Kirsten Dean; and great-great-grandson Jaxton Dean.
Mary leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth that will be forever cherished by her surviving family: grandchildren Frank Nibarger Jr. from Florida; Stephanie and Christopher Dean; Justin Olson; Jeramie Makinen all from Evanston; son-in-law Melvin "Fuzzy" Makinen from Torrington WY; great-grandchildren Madison Biebinger, Quinten Nibarger, Davin Dean, Camron Olson, Jade Olson; Leilani Richardson; Olivia Makinen.
Services to honor and celebrate Mary's life will be held at Evanston - Crandall Funeral Home for viewing on July 14 followed by another viewing at Evanston Machine Shop on July 15. The funeral service will also take place at Evanston Machine Shop later on the same day.
Though Mary may have left this world physically, the memories of her kindness and love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. Rose Mary Searcy will forever be remembered for her selflessness and unwavering dedication to those around her.
