Roland Dale Holgate Jr., lovingly known as Dale, passed away at home on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at the age of 72, after recently being diagnosed with stomach cancer.

Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, Dale spent his 72 years building a life centered around the people he loved, hard work, and the simple things that brought him happiness.

Dale was a husband, a dad, a son, a brother, and a friend, but he was so much more than those titles. He was an important part of the lives of those who loved him, and his presence brought something special that was uniquely Dale. The love he gave, the memories he created, and the moments shared with him will forever be a part of his family’s story.

Building was quite literally a part of Dale’s life. He owned and operated Uinta Construction, where he had the special opportunity to work alongside both his dad and his son. Together, they built many businesses and several homes throughout Evanston. Dale took great pride in his work, and there is something meaningful about knowing that so much of what he helped create still stands throughout the community today—a lasting reminder of his many years of hard work.

When Dale wasn’t working, he enjoyed being outdoors. He loved snowmobiling, but he was just as happy spending the day working in his own yard. He poured countless hours into planting, improving, and caring for the place he called home, turning the yard into a beautiful oasis for him and Nancy to enjoy together. It was something he took great pride in and a place where he could simply enjoy the results of his hard work.

Dale shared his life with his wife, Nancy Holgate, and was a proud dad to his son, Jodi Holgate, and daughter, Danae Hansen. Together, Dale and Nancy also shared a close bond with Nancy’s daughter, Jennifer Connor. The years they spent together brought countless memories, moments of laughter, and experiences that will now be treasured even more.

Dale is survived by his wife, Nancy; his son, Jodi; his daughter, Danae; Nancy’s daughter, Jennifer; his mother, Jan Henrikson; his brother Steve and his wife, Teresa; his brother, Danny; his sister Salena and her husband, Mike Dorner; and his sister Tina and her husband, Mitch Velarde.

Dale was preceded in death by his father, Roland; his brother, Tim; and his sisters, Becky and Sheila.

Dale’s time with us ended much sooner than anyone was ready for. His recent cancer diagnosis gave those who loved him far too little time to prepare for saying goodbye. But cancer was only a very small part of Dale’s story. His life will be remembered for everything that came before it—the years of hard work, the things he built, the home he cared for, the adventures, the laughter, and most importantly, the people with whom he shared his life.

The things Dale built with his hands will remain, but his greatest legacy can be found in the lives and memories of those who loved him. He will be missed at gatherings, during everyday conversations, and in the quiet moments when something familiar brings his memory rushing back.

Although we wish we could have had more time, we are grateful for the time we did have.

Dale was loved. He mattered. And he will always be a part of us.

We will miss him more than words can say.

Memorial services will be held at Crossroads New Life Fellowship, 101 Commerce Drive in Evanston on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at 11:00 am.
