Robert Gary McCormick, beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend, passed away on September 24, 2023, at the age of 89.
Born on April 13, 1934, in Oakley, Utah, Robert was the loving son of Keith and Berneice McCormick. He attended South Summit schools and received his education with distinction, graduating as the student body president in 1952. On August 8, 1958 he married, Karen Clark in Salt Lake City, Utah. Together they raised three children, Ted, Matt and Jennifer.
Robert was honored to serve in the US Army National Guard from 1954 to 1963, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. Deeply committed to education, he earned a Bachelor's of Science degree with a teaching certificate from the University of Utah in 1957. Undeterred in his pursuit of knowledge, Robert obtained a Master's degree in education from the University of Utah in 1971 and later received his administrator endorsement from Utah State University in 1983.
Robert's dedication and passion led him to a fulfilling career as an educator. He shared his wisdom and knowledge with countless students at various levels, including serving as an assistant principal at the high school and principal at the middle school. Additionally, Robert worked for the US Forest Service as a cadastral surveyor.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Robert served his community with utmost dedication. For eight years, he selflessly served on the city council, and from 1982 to 1986, he humbly fulfilled his duty as the mayor of Kamas. Robert's leadership and vision left an indelible mark on the community he held dear.
Above all else, Robert was a man of deep faith and commitment to his beliefs. A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served three honorable missions with his beloved wife, Karen McCormick. From their missionary work in Laos, Chinle, Arizona, to their service in Madagascar, Robert's unwavering faith guided him throughout his life.
Robert loved hunting, fishing, golfing, riding his side by side and anything outdoors. Without a doubt, Robert's greatest joy in life was his family. He cherished every moment spent with his loving wife, Karen, whom he shared 65 years of happiness and companionship. Together, they created a loving home and a legacy of love, compassion, and devotion. Robert's presence will be greatly missed by his family, including his children and grandchildren, as he leaves behind a profound emptiness in their hearts.
Robert is survived by his wife, Karen; sons, Ted (Judy) McCormick and Matt (Laci) McCormick; daughter, Jennifer McCormick; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, two sisters and his niece.
