On February 17, 2026, Robert Alan Fry, a friend of the community, passed on.
He had the good fortune of being born in the best town in the world, Hershey, Nebraska, on July 11, 1946. There he picked up values about life, work, people, the land and even baseball.
During 5th grade, his teacher instilled the joy of reading aloud and listening to folk music. A family friend encouraged his love of history. His interest in politics began in Sidney, Nebraska during high school. With Kearney State College came the exhilaration of geography.
After college, Bob was a volunteer for the Peace Corps in the Philippines. He taught school in Oregon, Salt Lake City and Evanston. He served missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in New Mexico/Arizona, Guyana-South America and Alaska.
He enriched the Evanston community by supporting the arts and education and by developing the Lifelong Learning Center, which brought college level classes and degrees to Evanston so that community members could pursue education and qualify for satisfying jobs without leaving town. He discovered community members' interests and talents and was good at convincing them to share those by teaching classes. He loved students and prided himself on being innovative and willing to try new ideas.
He had a love of good literature, biographies and movies, a love of laughter and fun, a love of adventure and learning, a love of poetry and truth, a love of the land, of crops and cows and trains, a love of going to work every day-and an even greater love of being home with his best friends: his wife Charlotte and his children: Charles, Brooks, Karma, Jack and Clark. He was proud of his grandkids: Océanne, Anaïs, Pierre-Alexandre, Abigail, Claire, Calvin, Sadie, Sarah, Eliza, Andrew and Charlotte. He loved his sister Susan and her husband and kids, his in-laws, cousins, classmates and numerous friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday March 21 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 251 Elm Street, Evanston, Wyoming. The family looks forward to greeting everyone after the service.
In lieu of sending flowers, the family requests that you honor Bob by taking a class or reading a book.
