Raymond A. Tanner

Raymond Alpha Tanner passed away on September 3, 2026, at the age of 96. He was born March 17, 1930, in Mountain View, Wyoming to William Smith and Ruby Elizabeth Brown Tanner.

Lovingly known as “Pa” by his family and close friends, he was full of fun, active and still working on the ranch up until just days before his passing.

He was a graduate of Mountain View High School class of 1948.

On September 12, 1950, he married Mary Sue Gladwill in Fallon, Nevada. They were later sealed in the Ogden, Utah Temple on May 21, 1997. Raymond was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints serving in whatever capacity he was asked.

Raymond proudly served in the United States Army from 1950-1953 and was a Korean War Veteran, having been awarded a Purple Heart after being injured while a member of the 141st Heavy Tank Battalion. He was an active member of the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars (VFW).

When Raymond was in his younger years, his favorite pastime was flying small airplanes. He built a hanger and small airstrip on his property just outside of town and when he wanted to land, he would “buzz” the house so kids could help get the cows off the airstrip.

He is survived by a son William R. Tanner (Sylvia) of Midlothian, VA; daughters, Patricia A. Love, of Seaside, OR; Mary Ellen Spann (Calvin), of Lyman, WY; Lynda R. Sidwell, of Mt. View, WY; and Laurie E. Johnson (Dean), of South Jordan, UT, along with 13 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and 21 great-great grandchildren.

Raymond is preceded in death by his spouse, parents, brothers, William Smith Tanner, Jr. and Norman Leone Tanner, a granddaughter Dana Sidwell, and sons-in-law Stan Sidwell and Bill Love.

His Funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 11:00 am in the Mountain View LDS Ward Chapel located at 116 4th St. in Mountain View, WY. Friends may call at the church on Friday evening from 6 to 7:30 pm and on Saturday one hour prior to the service.
