Ray Siddoway Broadbent, 87, passed away on April 18, 2026, in Salt Lake City, Utah, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 1, 1938, in Los Angeles, to JR and Lorna Broadbent, accompanied by his twin brother Joseph.
Ray graduated from Huntington Park High School in Los Angeles, California, in 1956. He faithfully served a two-and-a-half-year mission in the Spanish-American Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His education continued at the University of Utah, Utah State University, and Brigham Young University, where he received degrees in Animal Husbandry and a Master of Business Administration (MBA). Soon thereafter, he pursued his childhood sweetheart, Susan Moss, and charmed her into marrying him in the Salt Lake Temple on October 9, 1969, beginning a life together that was soon blessed with the joy of their three children.
He began his career in the banking industry and, after ten years, returned to his roots, devoting his life to the family ranch alongside his father and brother. Together, he and Joe ran Broadbent Brothers Livestock in the Imperial Valley, California, and on the western Wyoming range. Following the passing of his wife, Susan, he married Carole Ann Fisher Hickenlooper on August 27, 2007.
Ray will be remembered for his lifelong service and for his loving, kind, and charitable nature. He had a deep love for ranching and the land, but above all, he dedicated his life to Jesus Christ. Together, he and his devoted wife, Carole Ann, served two temple missions, one at the Panama City Temple and the other at the Laie Hawaii Temple. He faithfully served as a temple worker for more than 30 years in the San Diego and Ogden Temples. He held many church callings, but his greatest passion was genealogy work, performing thousands of ordinances for his ancestors and loved ones who had passed on before him. He was the ultimate missionary, always willing and eager to share his testimony of Jesus Christ with everyone he encountered. He left a legacy of faith, hard work, love of country, and devotion to family. He was loved by all who knew him. He was known for the mischievous twinkle in his eye, his playful sense of humor, and an infectious smile that could brighten any room he entered.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, and his first wife. He is survived by his wife, Carole Ann Fisher Hickenlooper Broadbent, and his three children: Joseph Lawrence Broadbent (Anna), Emily Jane Dennis (Justin), and Jennifer Sue Bennett (David); five stepchildren: Annie Brian (Mike), Bart Hickenlooper, Bret Hickenlooper (Missy), Erik Hickenlooper (Amie), and Jed Hickenlooper (Carrie); seven grandchildren; 21 step-grandchildren; 26 step-great-grandchildren; and his sister, Colleen Paddock (Tom).
