Patric Henry
Smaltz
October 7, 1964 – May 2, 2026
Patric Henry Smaltz, affectionately known as "Tigger," passed away on May 2, 2026, in Lyman, Wyoming. Born on October 7, 1964, in Fulda, Germany, Patric lived a life marked by unwavering loyalty, creativity, and a fierce love for his family.
A talented craftsman, Patric built his career in masonry and carpentry, skills through which he expressed his artistic spirit and innovative mind. Beyond his professional talents, he was a devoted father, and opa, roles he cherished above all else. He served honorably in the United States Army for five years and six months, attaining the rank of Specialist E4. His military awards, including the Army Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Army Lapel Button, Driver Badge, and Marksman qualifications with the M16 and hand grenade, spoke to his dedication and discipline. Yet, even as he took pride in his service, Patric’s greatest joy was always his family, particularly the privilege of being an opa—a role nothing else in life could surpass.
Patric’s personality was a vivid tapestry woven with a twisted sense of humor, artistic flair, and an intensely protective nature. A master of vocal impressions, he delighted in surprising friends and family with his creative humor, especially his unforgettable drunken gurgi impression. When Patric met someone new, he didn’t just make a friend; he gained a family member for life. His stubbornness was matched only by his determination to be the best version of himself, a quality profoundly felt by his loved ones.
He was a loving father to Ariel (John) Crawford, Alexandria (Chad) Horrocks, and Jordan Dawn Hicks , and a proud grandfather to ten extraordinary grandchildren—though his heart carried the bittersweet memories of his devoted son Zachary James Smaltz and granddaughter Neriah Hope Crawford, both dearly missed. Patric also leaves behind his siblings Herb (Sandy) Smaltz and Karen (Randy) Flynn, as well as three nephews and one niece. He was deeply connected to his loving father-in-law, Douglas Golightly, who shared in the family bond. Patric’s parents, Henry Edward Smaltz and Brunhilde Paula Smaltz, along with his mother-in-law Cathy Darlene Golightly, have preceded him in death.
Among the many ways Patric expressed his love was through memorable family activities. He delighted in wrestling with his grandchildren, losing no opportunity to engage in good-natured fun despite being a sore loser at cards, a pastime that brought the whole family together. His pride in his children and grandchildren was evident and boundless, often leading him to brag warmly to anyone fortunate enough to cross his path. In the kitchen, Patric shone as an extraordinary cook, especially known for his skill in preparing traditional German meals, a gift that nourished both body and soul.
His talents extended beyond construction and cooking. Patric was a collector of knives and an ingenious fixer of anything within reach, gifts that reflected his resourceful nature. Yet, it was the laughter and joy he brought to his grandchildren—the playful jokes and the heartfelt moments—that revealed the truest measure of his heart.
Patric Henry Smaltz was a man who loved deeply, protected fiercely, and lived fully. His legacy of loyalty, humor, and love will forever be etched in the hearts of those blessed to call him family. As "Tigger," he brought light, warmth, and a unique spark of life to everyone he met. In his passing, he leaves behind a family woven tightly together by his enduring spirit and the beautiful memories he created.
He was, and always will be, a great dad and an extraordinary opa. His life, though concluded, continues to inspire and uplift all who loved him. May his memory be a blessing and his legacy a guiding light.
