Norman Dean Daines

Norman Dean Daines, 87, of Evanston, Wyoming, passed away peacefully at home with family on April 27, 2026. He was born July 22, 1938, in Firth, Idaho, to Oliver and Lila Daines.

On March 7, 1963, Norman married the love of his life, Ardith Rhea Hawkins in the Logan, Utah temple. She died August 8, 1982.They were blessed with five children: Dean, Susan, Carl, David, and Nancy.

He was born and raised on a farm in Firth, Idaho. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Australia. He attended college at Utah State University in Logan, Utah where he met and married Ardith. After graduation they moved to California where he began his career working for the IRS. They spent twelve years there before moving to Oregon. He loved the outdoors. He would take his family on many vacations camping, hiking, fishing, sightseeing, and visiting family. He was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many different callings. In 1985, he moved his family to Utah. He was able to take early retirement on June 2, 1995, which he was very proud of. He kept very busy helping others with home building projects, traveling, and spending time with his growing family. He loved to provide service of any kind to those in need.

He is survived by his five children: Dean Daines, Susan (Rob) Anderson, Carl (Vanda) Daines, David (Christine) Daines, and Nancy (Travis) Vernon, 17 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother, Jay (Lucy) Daines and one sister, Val Rhodes.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, four brothers and one sister, one granddaughter, Shandy Anderson, and one great-granddaughter, Lila Higley.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at 11:00 am at the Evanston South Stake Center, 632 Twin Ridge Avenue, Evanston, Wyoming. Viewing will be held between 9:30 and 10:45 am that morning. Burial will be at the Marsh Center Cemetery in Arimo, Idaho.
