It is with a heavy heart and deep sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Wayne Schafer, 73, from Lyman, Wyoming. Mike departed this life on May 17, 2026 in Evanston, Wyoming. Mike was born on March 5, 1953 in Waynesville, Missouri. He was the son of Wayne and Opal (Chrisco) Schafer. He was raised in Salem, Missouri where he graduated from Salem Senior High.
After graduating, he served 4 years in the Army. Mike was adventurous and stubborn as a Missouri Mule. His passion was fishing first, hunting second. He loved the mountains of Colorado and Wyoming, where he settled in Lyman, Wyoming, After working as an underground miner for 30 years, he retired. On March 29, 2010, he married his High School Sweetheart, Diane Stokes. Together they shared 16 years of marriage building a beautiful life in Lyman. Mike will be remembered for his steadfast work ethic, his stubbornness, kindness and love for his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife Diane, daughters Danielle and Lorrissia Schafer (Ryan), granddaughter, Sydney, Mo, Grandsons, Taygin and Brailen Potter, Mtn View, WY. His sons, Aaron(Dana) White, granddaughter Tia, Salem MO. Brad(Becky) White & Grandchildren Bradleigh and Owen, Salem MO. Brent, Miskit, MO. A Sister, Debbie Sybert, Salem MO. Honorary friends, Rusty & Kandy Hutchison, Lyman, WY..
Preceding him in death were his parents,, Wayne and Opal Schafer, a brother in law Kevin Sybert.
A Celebration of Life will take place at the American legion Hall in Ft. Bridger, WY on May 31st, 2026, from 1-4pm.In Lieu of flowers, please donate to the Americal Legion in Ft. Bridger.
