Matthew Carl Sargeant

April 8, 1956 — December 29, 2025

Kamas

Matthew Carl Sargeant, age 69, passed away peacefully at home in Kamas, Utah, on December 29, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was born April 8, 1956, in Newport, Oregon, the fourth of eleven children born to Perry David Sargeant and Ada Christene (Hansen) Sargeant. He was preceded in death by his father, his brother Mark, and his infant sister, Susan.

Matt spent his early years living in many places, including Newport and Portland, Oregon; San Bernardino, California; Westbridge and Osoyoos, British Columbia, Canada; and Montello and Elko, Nevada. He completed high school in Elko, Nevada, in 1974, and later attended Weber State University. Those early years helped shape a man who was independent, capable, and comfortable carving his own path.

Matt met Lorri Ann Gines in Park City, Utah, and they married in August 1980. They shared life’s work, its challenges, and its quieter joys together. Lorri was his partner, his steady presence, and the heart of his home.

Matt was a hard worker to his core. He was strong-willed, intelligent, and a perfectionist—qualities that served him well and, at times, challenged him. He believed deeply in standing on his own two feet and never wanted to be a burden on anyone. If something needed to be done, he figured it out. If someone needed help, he showed up.

Matt loved being in the mountains and spending his time outdoors. In his younger years, he was almost always fishing, hunting, or camping, and those pursuits stayed close to his heart throughout his life. He spent many years building fence and took pride in hard, physical work. Cutting firewood, hauling hay, and long days of real labor—or just tinkering around outside—were things he genuinely enjoyed. He also loved being with his family, listening to music, and enjoying the simple things.

Matt also had a lighter side. He was funny, caring, a little mischievous, and loved to tease. A natural jokester, he used humor to connect, soften moments, and show affection. If he gave you a hard time, it usually meant you mattered to him.

Matt will be greatly missed by his family and friends, whose lives he touched. He lived a full life, rooted in work, family, and integrity.

Matt is survived by his wife, Lorri Ann Sargeant, and his children Mayon (Zack) and Kreed (Mandi). He was a proud Papa to Harleigh and Scarlett, who brought him great joy.

The family would like to thank Audrey Stembridge for bringing peace and comfort during Matt’s final days.
