Marvin Fay Smith

March 24, 1945 — May 12, 2026

Randolph, Utah

Marvin Fay Smith passed away peacefully on May 12, 2026, surrounded by his family. He was born March 24,1945 in Evanston, Wyoming to Frank and Lela Smith and raised in Randolph, Utah. Marvin enjoyed a happy childhood spent milking cows, hunting, fishing, and exploring the countryside with his brothers. He loved Rich County and the simple life it offered.

From 1965–1967, he served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Alaskan‑Canadian Mission. He cherished the people there and the experiences that deepened his testimony. After returning home, he met the love of his life, Ruth Tolman, at Weber State College. They were sealed in the Logan Utah Temple on April 10, 1970, and spent 56 wonderful years together raising seven children and building a life full of love, laughter, and service.

Marvin earned a degree in Automotive Engineering and spent his career as a mechanic. If it had a motor, he could fix it. He helped countless people over the years, often refusing payment and offering his time and talents simply because he cared. His quiet kindness, patience, and steady goodness made him a Christlike example to everyone who knew him.

Marvin supported his children and grandchildren in everything they did—sports, activities, and life’s milestones. His presence was always full of care and encouragement. He loved John Wayne movies, John Deere tractors, fixing anything that needed fixing, and spending time with his family—especially Ruth, his eternal companion. Together, they served as ordinance workers in the Ogden Utah and Star Valley Wyoming Temples and served a mission in the Hungary Budapest Mission, which they treasured.

Marvin’s faith was the center of his life. He loved the Savior Jesus Christ and served faithfully in many church callings. He lived a quiet life rooted in charity, humility, and love of God. His example is a gift that will bless his posterity for years to come.

Marvin is survived by his wife, Ruth; his children Scott (Karlinda), Glenn (Teresa), Shirlene (Robert) Ferney, Roger (Krystal), Kevin (Teralyn), Brenda (Damion) Lether, and Frank (Tawnia); 33 grandchildren; 4 great‑grandchildren; sister Nadene (Earl) Cook and sister-in-law, Erma Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Lela; his brothers Lenard and Delbert; and his sister Eilene.
