With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Martha Yasuda, who left us on January 16, 2026, at the age of 72.
Born on September 2, 1953, in Somerset, Ohio, Martha was the beloved daughter of Arthur and Margaret E. (Harlan) Snyder. She graduated from Sheridan High School in Thornville, Ohio, in 1971, before earning her Bachelor of Science degree from Georgetown University in Kentucky. Martha pursued her passion for medicine at Ohio State University School of Medicine, graduating with her medical degree in 1978.
Martha completed her medical residency at Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, followed by a Pediatric Surgery fellowship in Chicago. She proudly served as a Pediatric Surgeon at Sparrow Hospital and was appointed Associate Professor of Pediatric and Human Development at Michigan State University. During her distinguished career, she became a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and presented her research at international conferences. Tragically, her journey in medicine was interrupted in 1992 when she suffered a stroke.
In 1994, Martha relocated to Evanston, Wyoming, where she found new ways to serve her community. As a dedicated judge for science fairs at her son's school and the Board President and volunteer at the Uinta County Museum, she remained actively engaged. Her compassion shone through as she supported the Lord's Storehouse Food Bank. A talented quilter, Martha was awarded several blue ribbons and shared her passion by crafting quilts for her family, friends, and the University of Utah Pediatric Children's Center, completing her final two quilts in November 2025.
Martha was preceded in death by her son, John Arthur Kisala, and her parents.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Dr. Greg Yasuda, as well as her siblings: Elaine Snyder, John Snyder, twin sister Marilyn (David Horvath), David Snyder, and Dennis Snyder.
She also leaves behind nephews Dennis Horvath (Renae), Andrew Horvath (Angelica), and her cherished great-niece, Leona.
In accordance with Martha's wishes, cremation will be performed and a Celebration of Life will be organized later this year in Ohio, where family and friends will gather to honor Martha's incredible spirit and the legacy of love she leaves behind.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Lord's Storehouse Food Bank, PO Box 259, Evanston, Wyoming, as a tribute to Martha's enduring commitment to helping others.
Rest in peace, dear Martha. SEW BE IT.
