Lewis Grandville Chichester III passed away in Evanston, Wyoming, after a valiant fight with illness.
Lewis was born on September 14, 1954, in Grants Pass, Oregon, to Lewis Chichester II and Anita Chichester. The oldest of three children he loved his younger sisters, Linda and Karen, deeply-and tormented them often, as big brothers do. He grew up in Oregon, Nevada, and Colorado.
Just as Lewis was beginning to figure out life, he met Renee D. Wells and knew he had found the love of his life. They married and recently celebrated 50 years of unwavering devotion. Their marriage proved that true love can withstand even the fiercest Wyoming storms. Renee fondly remembers their back-road drives, quiet time together, and life with their beloved dogs.
Lewis and Renee settled in Southwestern Wyoming, eventually making Lyman their forever home. They welcomed three children: Lewis IV, who passed away shortly after birth; Anissa; and Donnie.
Anissa's fondest memory is how Lewis supported her beautiful singing. He often asked her to sing for him, especially "Amazing Grace." Donnie treasures the memory of deep-sea fishing with Lewis and Grandpa Lew off the Washington coast. As their children grew, Lewis and Renee opened their home and hearts to foreign exchange students and friend of his kids he would call his own.
Lewis wore many hats throughout his working life, including positions with Maverick, Gary's Trash Service, and Texas Gulf. He also generously served his community through the Granger and Lyman volunteer fire departments and the From the Heart Food Assistance Program.
In his spare time, Lewis enjoyed camping, comedy shows, gambling, and spending time with family.
Unfortunately, his judgment was not flawless: he was a Denver Broncos fan and loved Ford Mustangs. Thankfully, he showed much better taste when choosing his friends and family.
Lewis was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Anita Chichester, and his son, Lewis Chichester IV.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Renee Chichester; daughter Anissa (Cory) Pawleska; son Donnie (D'Andrea) Chichester; six grandchildren, Trae (Kimberlie) Albert, Wyatt (Kylee) Taggart, Stacey Williams, Jared Chichester, Lexi Pawleska, and Jensen Pawleska; and six great-grandchildren, Samantha, Tyler, Hudson, Scarlett, Emrie, and Benjamin.
A private celebration of life will be held for the family, followed by a larger camping weekend in the summer of 2027-a fitting tribute to Lewis and the life he loved.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite dog rescue, as Lewis's dogs were truly his world.
