1942 Larry 2025

Larry J. Martin

July 11, 1942 — June 2, 2025

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend Larry Jay Martin of Lake Point, Utah, passed away on June 2nd, 2025.

Larry was born in Ogden, Utah, to Lawrence Martin and Ettie Margaret Bate Martin on July 11th, 1942. In his early childhood, Larry grew up on his father's ranch on Hilliard Flat, Wyoming, with his sister Joan and brother Tony. Eventually, the family moved to Evanston, Wyoming, where he attended Evanston High School and fell in love with Peggy Perkins. They married on January 20th, 1961.

Together, they had a son, Rick, and a daughter, Jeanne. Larry gained employment as a signal maintainer at Union Pacific, moving the family to Hermiston, Oregon, then Page, Washington.

Longing to be closer to home, the couple moved their family to Lake Point, Utah, where Larry worked at Kennecott. There, they had their sweet baby girl Ginger.

After retirement, he was blessed with two grandchildren, TJ and Bailey, and two great-grandchildren, Boston and Brookline. He was completely dedicated to his family and was always there for them; he truly loved his people.

Larry was a true Renaissance man. He was expertly skilled in electrical work, woodwork, antique vehicle restoration, gunsmithing, leatherwork, hunting, fishing, gardening, and could self-study any topic he wanted to learn.

Over the years, he did the wiring for their house, built Peggy an oak bedroom set, and restored a 1937 Ford pickup. He had a wealth of knowledge in history and unlimited curiosity about the world, with countless books in the house.

Larry was a student of life and also an excellent teacher of it.

Larry leaves behind a legacy of service, work ethic, and most importantly, a family that loves each other and him. He often said his family is his greatest legacy.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Perkins Martin, and his parents, Lawrence and Ettie Martin.

He is survived by his siblings, Joan (Mark) Nixon and Tony Martin; sister-in-laws, Dorothy Brangham, Ellen Perkins, and Patsy Stahley; children, Rick Jay Martin, Jeanne Lynne Martin Griffith, Ginger Kaye Martin; his grandchildren, Troy Jay Martin, Bailey Lynne Martin; his great-grandchildren, Boston Jay Martin, and Brookline June Martin.

Services will be held on Saturday, June 7th, 2025, at Crandall Funeral Home, 800 Uinta Street, Evanston, Wyoming. The viewing will be from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., and the funeral service will be at 1 p.m.
