Evanston - Crandall Funeral Home
Starts at 11:00 am
Justin Troy Barnes, almost exclusively known as Shorty, was born in Evanston, Wyoming to Ed and Anita Barnes and passed away in Evanston on August 1, 2026. His grandfather, Hubert Faddis, gave him the name Shorty. There were times that he literally forgot his actual name was Justin. It is believed right now there is a traffic jam in heaven as the angel's are calling out for Justin Barnes. He may not know he's next in line for those heavenly gates, or, he might be just stubborn enough to wait until they call Shorty.
Shorty graduated from Evanston High School. He didn't think he would graduate, as he talked about dropping out. He was intelligent, just struggled with the school system. His grandfather, Hubert Faddis, whom he was uniquely and deeply connected to, talked him into staying in school and finishing it. If you knew Shorty's grandfather, that talk probably went along the lines of "You aren't quitting unless you want my foot in your ass for the rest of your days." Hubert Faddis had a way with words.
Shorty inherited his grandfathers tact. He was tough on his son, Tyrel Barnes, but only because he loved him with a passion only God knows. Shorty fought and accepted burdens simply to keep Tyrel in his life. He never gave up on Tyrel and he's still in Tyrel's corner. Tyrel, in turn, gave Shorty the greatest gift Shorty could ever hope for, his granddaughter Oakley. Shorty could be counted on to help or visit, but if Tyrel was bringing Oak around, everything else was forgotten or could wait a day.
Shorty is survived by his son Tyrel and granddaughter Oakley; his mother Anita Barnes and his siblings and their families, Travis Barnes and spouse Donita, Tonya Dennis and souse David, Jarred Barnes and spouse Krista, Julie Hand and spouse Phillip and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Ed Barnes and a nephew Cole Barnes.
A viewing will held Monday, August 10, 2026 from 9:00-10:45 AM at Crandall Funeral Home in Evanston, Wyoming with the service starting at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in Evanston City Cemetery.
