Joy Ann Herman

Joy Ann Sorensen Herman passed away peacefully on May 20, 2026. She was born August 28, 1935 in Ogden, Utah to Golden F. Sorensen and Freda Longhurst Sorensen. She was raised in Randolph, Utah, where she lived until marrying Gerald Herman on December 15, 1953. They were later married in the Logan Temple. They lived in Hawaii while he was in the Navy, and then returned to make their home in Evanston, Wyoming. Joy and Jerry had 60 happy years together until his passing in 2013.

She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- Day Saints and served in many callings throughout her life. She and Jerry served as service missionaries at the Bishop’s Storehouse.

Joy and Jerry owned an apartment building for over 35 years, and while he worked his regular job, she became building manager. Through that, they made lifelong friends who became like family. She was a preschool teacher for several years and loved the little children she taught. Joy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend, who was always ready to lend a listening ear or helping hand. She leaves behind family and friends who will miss her greatly, while reuniting with loved ones who welcome her home.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, MarJean Thomson. She is survived by her children, Julie Jones of Evanston, and John Herman, also of Evanston, 8 grandchildren, Michael, Jeremy, Lisa, Laura, Matthew, Brittani, Kaiya and Ailaina, 23 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Max (Joan) Sorensen of Rexburg, Idaho.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 30, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at the Evanston LDS Stake Building 721 West Cheyenne Drive. A viewing will be held at the same address on Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. as well as Saturday morning from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.
