Jane Elizabeth Barton Kallas 97 left this earthly life peacefully back to her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, January 21, 2026. She was born on May 23, 1928, in Evanston, the daughter of John and Annie (Crompton) Barton.
She was an awesome and amazing daughter, sister, wife, mom, grandma, great grandma, great, great grandma, aunt, friend and neighbor. Jane married Fred Kallas on January 24, 1947, in Evanston. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on January 25, 1962.
Jane was a faithful and devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day-Saints. She faithfully prayed for all petitioning the Lord for whatever they needed, and they received that which they needed from the Lord. Jane was a faithful scripture reader, never retiring to bed without reading them. She was always prepared for church and lessons. She was a member of the DUP, she served in the Relief Society, Cub Scouts, Primary, Young Women’s and served faithfully in the Ogden Temple for 22 years. Mom loved everyone and everyone loved her. She was a faithful card and letter writer; she gave service to her family and friends all the time.
Jane worked as a switchboard operator for Mt. Bell Phone Company, and J.C. Penny's. Most of all she was a devoted and loving mom to her six children: grandma to 21 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren and 11 great, great grandchildren.
She is survived by five children Mike (Kathy) Kallas, Fred D. (Meg) Kallas, Diane (Fred) Richins, Kevin (Michelle) Kallas, Scott (Tanzee) Kallas as well as her grand and great and great, great grandchildren.
Jane was preceded in death by her husband Fred, a daughter Cindy Sue Kallas, her parents, two brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at the Elm street LDS Chapel. Visitation will be on Friday evening between the hours of 6:00 and 8:00 pm and again Saturday morning from 9:00 till 10:30 am also at the church. Interment will follow in the Evanston City Cemetery.
