Obituary

Jane Valane (Rice) Barton, beloved wife, mother, sister and grandmother, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2026 in Evanston, Wyoming. She was born on March 9, 1948 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Merle Emerson Rice and Myrtle (Jackson) Rice.

Jane was a city girl who met the love of her life; Douglas, a country boy with southern roots who somehow talked her into her next loves; gardening, crafting, and creating sweet treats. She was quite honestly our own Janey Crocker. She loved all outdoor activities, her best furry friends, finding arrow heads, card games (Canasta, if you know you know) & mostly her grandkids. Her favorite pastime was reciting every line of her favorite movies.

Throughout her life, she was known for her kindness, generosity, and dedication to family and friends. She is leaving a legacy of love and compassion with all who knew her.

She is lovingly remembered by Douglas Ray Barton, her husband of 47 years; her children Robert (Jillian) Thompson, Melynda (Jesus) Hernandez and Shiloh Barton; six grandchildren Taelor (Nikolas) Graslie, Vivvianna and Dennis Thompson, Madison and Isabel Hernandez, and Tysen Barton; siblings Jim (Roz) Rice and Amy Saxton.

Jane is preceded in death by her parents Merle & Myrtle Rice and sister Lydia Bennett.
