George Garold Atkinson (Garold) a life long resident of the Kamas Valley passed away the morning of May 25, 2026. He was born September 22, 1935 to Delmo Atkinson and Ilene Lemon Atkinson at the family home in Francis, Utah. Garold was the second oldest of 7 siblings. Garold was a supportive husband, brother, father, friend, and provider. He graduated from South Summit High School on May 26, 1953. He married the love of his life, Sandra Butters, on February 11, 1955 in Kamas Utah. They lived together and raised 5 children in the home Garold lived in for 69 years. They were sealed for eternity in the Salt Lake City, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Temple in 1959. He was employed in the lumber and construction industries until he was hired by the United States Forest Service in 1964 where he retired 32 years later. He served faithfully in numerous church callings including: High Council, Sunday School President, Young Men President, multiple Bishoprics, and as Bishop. Following his retirement from the Forest Service, he served in the Salt Lake Temple for over 20 years. Garold enjoyed farming, building, and music. He and his brothers played music at several venues throughout the valley for many years. He also sang at numerous funeral services for friends, families, and neighbors and enjoyed singing at weddings and family activities. Sandra and Garold enjoyed square dancing with local friends and family and traveled around the world. They visited places such as: Israel, Jerusalem, Jordan, Alaska, and multiple church sites. Often, they spent a significant amount of time roadtripping with their children to California hitting Disneyland and beaches. Garold was preceded in death by his parents, loving wife Sandra Butters Atkinson, a brother (Theil), 3 brothers-in-law, and 2 sisters-in-law. He is survived by his children: Clay B. (Shelly), Kelli Ann Peterson, Shari Lee (Mike) Pappas, LaNae (Troy) Ence, Jason Jon (Katie), 13 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 2 brothers, and 3 sisters. The family expresses our appreciation to Audrey Stembridge for the compassionate care and the staff at Crandall Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held Friday, May 29, 2026 at 11:00 am in the Kamas Ward Chapel, 100 W. Center Street, Kamas, UT 84036. A viewing is scheduled for Thursday, May 28 from 6:00-8:00 pm and Friday 9:30 till 10:45 am prior to the funeral. Interment will be at the Marion Cemetery.
