Dorothy Mae (Dean) Stanley was born on December 20, 1938 to Helen Mae (Brown) Dean and DeWayne Olend Dean in Woodruff, Utah. Dorothy was the oldest of 3 children. Dorothy passed away peacefully at Rocky Mountain Care in Evanston on Oct 11, 2026. Leaving behind a legacy of love, faith and enduring grace.
Dorothy completed all her schooling in Evanston, moving there from Woodruff as a small girl, and proudly graduated from Evanston High in 1957. She went on to do some college at BYU. She met the love of her life on New Years Eve 1957, John T. Stanley (JT). They fell in love and were married October 17, 1958; at her parents home in Evanston. They spent most of their married life in Evanston, but had lived in other places for John's work.
Dorothy was a stay at home mother. Which she excelled at. She raised 5 children and helped raise several grandchildren. Dorothy could make the most amazing bread, scones, raspberry jam, and potato salad. Dorothy was always so kind and loving, did not like hearing gossip or having anything said bad about anyone around her.
As her children got older, Dorothy found work outside the home. She worked for JCPenney, Jubilee in the bakery and then had a position at Workforce Services in Evanston.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents; Helen and DeWayne Dean, her husband John T. Stanley; daughters Cathy Mae (Stanley) Jones, Cherilyn (Stanley) Hansen, 3 grandchildren; Shaelyn Dorothy Hansen, Hunter John Hansen, Scott Thomas Mueller, and one brother Roger Dean.
Dorothy is survived by 2 daughters, Cami and Carrie; 13 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren. She loved her family very much and loved seeing the grands and great-grands when they would visit her. Nan loved her babies.
Dorothy loved to go camping and fishing. She could out fish anyone, her husband wished he had never taught her to fish. Her favorite places to be were in Yellowstone and the Tetons.
Dorothy held many positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, of which she was a lifelong member. She and John were sealed for time and all eternity on March 29, 1972 in the Salt Lake City Temple.
Per Dorothy's request there will be no services. Cremation has taken place and she will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband, John in the Evanston City Cemetery.
Many thanks and appreciation to the staff at Rocky Mountain Care for the care and service they gave to my parents. Everyone did great and it wasn't easy sometimes, so thank you very much.
Many thanks to Crandall Funeral Home for the care and help with all the arrangement for my mom.
