Donald Scott Bodine, age 69, of Evanston valiantly fought, but lost his battle with Merkel Cell Carcinoma and passed away just before midnight on December 8, 2025, surrounded by his wife and children, listening to his favorite Pink Floyd music.
Donnie, as he was commonly known, was born on April 13, 1956, to Harry L. and Lillian Robinson Bodine, the youngest of 6 children. He lived and worked in Evanston for most of his life; except for the time he spent attending Brigham Young University. He married his high school sweetheart, Marcia Duncan, in the fall of 1975, they recently celebrated their 50th anniversary!
Donnie joined the Evanston Fire Department not too long after getting married, while working for the Blyth & Fargo Company, a family business. He then worked with the city water department before becoming a fulltime firefighter/EMT. Several relatives and good friends followed in his footsteps to Emergency Services. When the Fire District was established in 1995, he was named Chief. He also simultaneously served as the director of the Ambulance service County wide, until a couple of years ago when he became sick after a series of unfortunate events. He served in several capacities throughout the years and was extremely dedicated to each task. To know him was to love him. He was very fair with his handling of disagreements or problems and tried to treat all people the same regardless of their rank and/or training status. He always said you needed to especially be kind to the volunteers as without them, there was no department. He will truly be missed for the many hours he gave unselfishly to this community!
He was a lifelong member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, which teaches that when you are in the service of your fellow men, you are in the service of your God. Most of his grandchildren lived close and he loved spending time with them. He also liked to help his brother at the ranch, which was another example to his kids of the value of hard work, but sometimes gave him a chance to unwind from always being on call.
He is survived by his wife, Marcia, their children, Angela, Ryan, and Christopher, and their significant others. Eight exceptionally talented grandchildren: Savanna, Porter, Sheridan, Lily, Julia, and Abby Hatch, along with Kelvin and Draxton Bodine. The Bodine sisters: Judith Johnson (Lynn), Mary Kathleen Harrison (Bud), Bonnie Lym (LaVor), and Ruth Walburger (Dan), Sisters-in-law, Jeanie LaBuff and Brenda Bonin (Rick), many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Lillian, his father, Harry, his brother George Lee and Lee’s wife Janice (his other mother), his father-in-law Robert Duncan, his sister-in law Becky Morrison, and his brothers-in-law John Morrison, Jim Duncan, and Elvis Labuff. All his parent’s siblings and their parents, (his aunts, uncles, and grandparents, as well as several cousins).
A celebration of Donnie’s life will be held at the Roundhouse on Friday, at 2:00 in the afternoon where fellow firefighters/EMTs, friends, and family can gather and reminisce. We love you all and hope that you can stop in.
