Colby Jay Ervin

March 8, 1993 — November 5, 2024

Evanston

Colby Jay Ervin, 31, passed away in Malad City, Idaho. He was born in Evanston, Wyoming to Daryl and Leslie (Newsome) Ervin. He graduated from Evanston High School in 2011.

Growing up, Colby would always say “I’m a busy guy”, he was very inquisitive, had empathy a mile long and made friends easily. Colby loved wrestling from a young age and would practice moves with anyone, whether they would let him or not. He loved kids, often calling them all his “little buddy” and would make them feel important, taking them under his wing.

He could back up a truck to a trailer perfectly despite having no depth perception. He has worked various jobs, including car repair, painting and welding, his trade of choice which he excelled in that. He was always precise and would say, “measure twice, cut once”. He made many life-long friends on his short journey.

Colby always loved being outdoors, hunting, camping, or fishing. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge with others, whether it was the art of tying flies, how to cast the perfect line, welding, barbequing or smoking all cuts of meat.

He was always there for anyone in need, he was selfless, loving, helpful, and kind hearted. He would literally give someone the shirt off his back or stop to help change a stranger’s tire on the side of the road. He tormented his sister relentlessly, but also loved her and was her greatest protector. He loved going on road trips with his mom and they would play “random thoughts”. He had the greatest laugh!

Colby is survived by his mother, Leslie Ervin, brother John (Jessica) Ervin, sister Mackenzie Ervin (Christian Close), grandparent Lois Ervin, many aunts, uncles and cousins, cohabitator Denise Coombs, her daughter Oakley, and his crazy bird dog, Nellie.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Earl and Jackie Newsome, Clarence Ervin. His father Daryl Ervin, uncles Dave Newsome, Don Ervin, Dan Ervin and cousin Kody Ervin.

There will be a celebration of life at the Bear River Town Hall on May 31, 2025 from 4-6 pm. Please feel free to stop by and share memories and stories.
