Lacee Sims passed away March 10, 2026 at her home in Evanston surrounded by her loving family.
"Memory has the power to gather roses in Winter"
I hope I have left enough good memories for my family to remember all the good even when it was hard. MoM
A celebration of her life will be announced at a later date. We encourage all of her friends and family to attend and share their favorite memories.
Lacee Sims was born in the summer of 1969 in Jacksonville, Florida.
She was raised mostly on the Wasatch front of Utah where she graduated high school in 1987 and then went on to attend the Veterinary Technician program through Colorado State in 1988.
Lacee met her best friend and true love Shaun, while working for his Veterinarian uncle in Bountiful Utah. She continued to work commuting to & from Bountiful from Evanston, Wyoming for 2 ½ years after they were married in September of 1995. She then worked at Bear River Vet for just short of 14 years, medically retiring in 2010.
She had a very chaotic childhood filled with things she never wanted her children to experience, so she did everything in her power to build a safe and strong family, and her husband was the anchor to building that family with her. Shaun & Lacee, raised three perfect, fantastic, smart and beautiful daughters.
Nicole (Kevin Moore) Dakota, Cassidy
Jade (Mike Shelton) Sawyer, Fletcher
Mikayla ~ Oaklee, Waylen, Lane, Dakota, Beau
Lacee lived for her husband, children and grandchildren.
They are the greatest joy in her life.
Lacee created beautiful art & memories in the form of photography & her little side gig Leather-N-Lace Photography (named by her beloved grandmother who said Shaun & Lacee, were like Leather & Lace~ absolute opposites.)
She worked hard creating memories for others and telling the Sims ranch & others stories through Agricultural photography for many years.
Lacee, volunteered her time and energies to the Adopt a Rancher program through the Conservation District and had so much fun writing all the kids' letters back and forth.
She sat on the Wyoming Beef Council and was even made chairman for 2 years! She also put energy and effort in to the Wyoming Agriculture in the classroom board and realized she had no normal teaching skills. Then volunteered 2 years as a patient advocate at the University of Utah helping other patients find their voices. Eventually her health made her step back & focus on survival from disease that debilitated her everyday life. People would ask her when she would be done with treatments and it broke her heart every time to say never. There was no cure, just Band-Aids. By 2025 she had been fighting HARD since 2010 but it began long before then. She went through awful treatments bi-weekly that just gave her a fighting chance, medication trials that never worked but caused more damage, drug around oxygen hoses through the house, portable oxygen on the go and cussed her ability to just be normal anymore. Yet she continued to smile through the bad days & cherished the good days. Through it all she continued to still take photos of everything she could. But mostly her family.
Lacee loved her critters, her love of poodles was never in question! They were her constant companions for many years and she also had a few kitties that she found a lot of joy in. She loved having lambs, chickens & even the dang ducks.
Shaun & Mikayla built her a green house and garden plot where she has spent the last few years wandering through the green stuff, growing things and clucking to her vegetables like errant children. Always trying to grow tomatoes & zucchini and making the grandkids help her by picking strawberries, gathering eggs, pulling weeds with her and cooking. Lacee, loved to cook & throw family parties (sometimes with themes & decorations to boot) always trying to show her people just how much she loved them, Fully.
She had lifelong friends that she treasured greatly even though she didn't get to see them enough she is pretty sure they knew her love for them no matter what the time or distance and always tried to stay in touch just to check in.
But her best partner in crime and secrets throughout her life was her brother, Johnny.
She loved Shaun more than she could ever explain and really wanted to spend forever days in his presence. He never made her feel less than, he always let her be herself whether she was grumpy, sad, scared or just emotional about the heaviness of days. He dealt with her feelings better than anyone ever could. And he always made her laugh, look forward & make plans.
He never left her side
