Barbara Lewis

February 28, 1957 — March 14, 2025

Evanston

The evening of March 14th, 2025 Barbara Ann Lewis returned home to God the Father.

Barbara was born in Layton, Utah on February 28th, 1957 to Nieves and Margarita Ramirez. Her father instilled in her many passions like gardening and fishing. She loved all things outdoors, because it ignited the wild but passionate heart inside of her. She had a green thumb unmatched by most and could grow anything she attempted. She surrounded her home with a variety of plants. From a very young age Barbara loved animals. Among her favorites were horses. When she was little she learned to ride and break horses with her father. Growing up she and her family would grow and raise their own food. Her and her father’s love for animals made it so they could not be the ones to slaughter them and would get in trouble for naming them. All animals loved her and sensed her nature instantly. Even the more aggressive or “grumpy” animals would become much more mellow and befriend her. Throughout her life she had a menagerie of pets. From dogs, cats, and birds, to sugar gliders and lizards.

Fishing was her favorite activity. She said frequently her best memories were fishing with her father or her husband. She would go any time she got the opportunity. She and her dad would fish along the Weber river, between Henefer and Ogden, Utah. She would also fish with her husband in a variety of locations. She remarked many times that while she loved fishing, it was the time spent in nature with two of her favorite people. Stating that being there in the quiet of nature she could not deny the love and majesty from God in His creation.

In her life she had a variety of occupations but her most cherished one was at the United States Forest Service. This fed her passions of animals, the outdoors and helping her fellow humans. She very rarely said a negative comment towards another. Her love for animals also carried over in her helping her fellow humans. She was a person that gave what she had to a human or animal even if it meant she went without, while never feeling like she had nothing. Very few hearts could match her love.

Barbara gave birth to 5 daughters between 1975 and 1980. She said all 5 of them were her greatest accomplishments, also noting that each one gave her something special and always made her know she was greatly loved. In the early 1990s she met Richard Lewis. They fell deeply in love and married on October 23, 1992. They remained married until her passing. Richard was the love of her life and would say it often. Together they travelled the country with his job driving long-haul trucks. They shared many interests. It was very rare they were not together when they went out into the world. They shared a bond and a love few achieve but all seek.

Barbara was preceded in death by her father and mother Nieves and Margarita Ramirez, two brothers Manual and Dale Trujillo and sister-in-law Georgia Trujillo, brother-in-law Larry Archuleta, sister Gail Sirwaitis and her husband Larry Sirwaitis, nephews Nieves Ramirez JR, Josh Reihlman, Armando Romero and Reo Keanu Walks-Over-Ice Ramirez.

Barbara loved so many people and animals. She loved music and would give every genre or song a chance. If she did not like a song she would roll her eyes and give her head a small shake and tell the person who showed it to her “she wasn't sure about them”, then smile and laugh. She was a true servant to those she met and loved, giving all she could to help them. She would defend those who needed to be defended with righteous might and would not shy away from a dispute if needed. Many times she defended her children against the world and those who tried to hold them back. Like all, she experienced hard and difficult times throughout life. She gave those experiences minimum attention required and chose to focus on the good instead. Those experiences made her a warrior. Her heart was her greatest weapon. She wielded it with precision and grace. Her laughter, spark and love will be greatly missed.
